Hi,
just want to inform you that Philippe and I have applied for a
devroom at next years fosdem in Brussels, February 6th and 7th.
In case you have some influence on the fosdem organisation team,
now it's the time send out some good vibrations or
to arm the voodoo dolls. ;-)
In any case we would like to have that session with you!
So in the unlikely event that there will be no devroom,
we maybe just meet some place in Brussels over one or two beers. ;-)
Regards,
Frank

devroom name:
The Digital Livingroom - sharing our media with the help
of UPnP (and DLNA)
devroom description:
After quite some time, where our digital media was limited to dedicated
devices - e.g. mp3 players - or spend an isolated life on the PCs of
their owners, more and more consumer device appear on the market
allowing to easily share these media files in an household
(and beyond *).
The protocols behind UPnP A/V and DLNA are nowadays implemented in
nearly every connected Consumer Electronics device. Being it some first
simple clients a years ago, continuing with consoles like the PS3 and
the XBox 360, media clients like the PopcornHour,... and now they can be
found in amplifiers, TVs and even mobile phones from various vendors.
Using these UPnP A/V and DLNA on our computers and enabling our
favourite applications to enter that world creates a unique landscape
where suddenly bridges appear between formerly isolated digital islands.
The goals of our session(s)
- explaining (basic) UPnP A/V with Coherence and maybe a PS3
as an example
- demonstrating the integration and (DBus) interaction of
Coherence with other applications:
* Rhythmbox, Totem, Nautilus, EoG and Banshee (Gnome)
* Amarok and Dolphin (KDE)
* DVB-Daemon, Ampache
* Moovida
* ...
- providing a presentation area for other applications
like MediaTomb, Rygel, MythTV, Freevo and XBMC
- presenting Mirabeau - a way to create Personal Media Networks
by combining XMPP and UPnP
- speaking about some not-so-well-known features of UPnP,
like TV recording and Media-Sync and our work in that area
- having a session with the Coherence users - which we'll know
a lot will be there @ Fosdem - and get a direct feedback
Regarding the devroom we estimate a 2 or 3h slot for the goals
sketched above. As we are in Brussels the whole weekend we are
open to either Saturday or Sunday.
